Shinsen-en
神泉苑

Shinsen-en is a Shingon branch temple located just to the south of Nijō Castle. Constructed originally in the ninth century as a garden for the Emperors, this wet-landscape garden was transformed into a temple during the Meiji Period. Although not very big, its pond with a red bridge and a dragon ship at the back is nice to visit on sunny days.

Admission: open year-round
