Traditionally starting with the opening of plum blossoms (ume) in late February, I restrict this section to the more famous cherry blossoms, blooming from mid-March (wheeping cherry, shidare-zakura) to mid-April (for example kurobeni-shidare), although usually we connect cherry blossoms to the somei yoshino type of cherries, which can be seen throughout Japan in (usually) early April.
