Entoku-in
圓徳院
A sub-temple of Kōdai-ji, Entoku-in is located just along the popular “Nene strolling path” from the protected district of Yasaka and Kiyomizu to Maruyama Park. Slightly hidden from sight, Entoku-in has two major dry landscape gardens, one of them with the classic engawa 縁側 experience of gazing at a garden from inside a building. Visiting the temple is recommended on days with soft light, a combined ticket with Kōdai-ji enables you to save some money for the entrance fee. The temple is well-known for its autumn colors, but to date, I have not yet found the time to catch the trees at the right time. Along the exit is the Shō Museum of Kōdai-ji, which exhibits a number of Buddhist artifacts and arts, and is also included in the combined ticket.
Admission: open year-round
