Hōkan-ji (Yasaka Pagoda)
法観寺(八坂の塔)

The Yasaka Pagoda is, together with Kiyomizu-dera and the Golden Pavillon, without doubt one of the icons of Kyōto. It is a five-storied pagoda located in the preserved Yasaka district of Higashiyama, along a strolling path leading from Kiyomizu-dera in the south to Kōdai-ji and Maruyama Park in the north.
Formally, the pagoda is part of the Buddhist temple of Hōkan-ji 法観寺, of which today only the pagoda remains. Although usually not open to the public, there are irregular openings of the interior of the pagoda. Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to visit this opening to date.

Admission: streets around the temple public / irregular special opening of the pagoda interior
Nearby places of interest: Kōdai-ji, Entoku-in, Kiyomizu-dera
