Daitoku-ji Kōrin-in
大徳寺 興臨院
Established in 1521–28, Kōrin-in is a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji. The center of this temple is the Hōjō-style main hall, which is surrounded by different gardens, the main of which is a typical Zen-style karesansui garden facing south, at the corner of which an island of moss and rhododendron, throned over by maple leaves, provides seasonality to the space. The west- and north-facing gardens are maples.
Open only in early summer (April/May) and autumn (October/November), Kōrin-in is a good place to enjoy either Satsuki season or maple foliage.
Admission: special openings in early summer and autumn.
Nearby places of interest: Zuihō-in, Ryōgen-in, Kōtō-in, Ōbai-in.
