Miyama Town
美山かやぶきの里

Miyama is a town to the north of Kyoto City. A roughly 90 minute drive from Takao, the village is famous for an assembly of houses with traditional thatched roofs (kayabuki no sato).

Not as famous as Shirakawa-go in Central Japan, Miyama's thatched-roof village nevertheless became a somewhat to-go spot for photographers and day trippers from the Kansai area.

A good time to visit seems in September and October, when Soba flowers and Cosmos are blooming. Besides that, winter in Miyama is nice if you want to experience some snow sceneries.
